Melvin D. Bass

	Melvin D. Bass, age 77, of DuQuoin, formerly of Pinckneyville, died Saturday, November 17, 2001 at 11:25 p.m. in the Fairview Nursing Home, DuQuoin.
	Melvin was born in Pinckneyville on May 11, 1924, the son of William Benjamin (Ben) and Melvina (Harnetiaux) Bass.  He married Delores Williamson on June 18, 1951 in Pinckneyville and she survives.  
	During his lifetime, he served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, worked as a guard at Menard Correctional Center in Chester and was a forklift operator for the former Phelps Dodge in DuQuoin.
	Survivors include his wife:  Delores of DuQuoin; a daughter:  Susan Hendriksen and husband John of Danville, Calif.; two grandchildren:  Melissa Ann Hendriksen and Erik John Hendriksen, along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
	He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers:  LaVerne, Gerald, Andy and Benton and a sister:  Winifred Boyer.
	Following cremation, graveside services were held at a later date.
	Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville was in charge of arrangements.
